A true rarity, Vivaldi’s recently discovered, seldom performed masterpiece is set in Mexico during the Spanish conquest that led to the end of the Aztec Empire. While this 18th century opera is a highly romanticized and naive take on the historical events of over 200 years earlier, it nevertheless is surprisingly sensitive and empathetic to the tragedy of the Aztecs as they fight for their land and the survival of their culture and people.
Peter Kozma directs the production and conducts the Opera Neo Orchestra, performing on period instruments.
